The prestigious car manufacturer Porsche has announced that they are to hold an esports tournament. Few people will be surprised to learn that the tournament is related to cars, as Porsche teams up with Forza Motorsport 7 to bring It to fruition.
The Tournament will bring together the best esports competitors from the Asia Pacific region, and the winner will eventually become the first ever Porsche Asia Pacific Forza Cup Champion.
However, while the tournament registration is open to esport pros and amateurs alike, there are certain eligibility criteria. First, participants need to be based in the Asia Pacific region. Second, they must own an Xbox game pass and have either access to a PC, Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X, because Forza Motorsport 7 is an exclusive game to the Microsoft owned Xbox games console.
The format of the tournament is quite straight-forward. Obviously, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the tournament is online only. It’s to be staged over four weeks, between September 29th 2020 – October 31st 2020.
The first qualifying week will see gamers take on the Bathurst track in a Porsche 918 Spyder sports car. The Bathurst circuit has a mix of 23 fast and slow corners. In addition, it has gradients of up to 16 percent. The first Rivals Qualifier Week takes place between 29th September to 5th October.
Gamers will then move on to the Nürburgring Nordschleife track for the following week of qualifying. Here, they will race in a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The demanding Nürburgring track is bound to prove extremely testing for many, so expect a few of your prospects to have a hard time in gaining a competing record time for it.
Finally, the competitors will head to Le Mans. Here, they will use the Porsche 919 Hybrid as their race vehicle.
Without doubt, this three-week qualifying period will prove too much for many aspiring amateur esports gamers. Thereby expecting only, the esport pros to remain in the competition.
During the qualifying stages, points are awarded to gamers. When the calculations are complete, the tournament will move into the Grand Final stage. By now, only the 16 best esports gamers in the Asia Pacific region will have survived the cut, and in order to make the finals more varied, only 3 competitors from any one country can feature in the final 16.
The Grand Final will consist of two more races. The first race takes place on Forza Motorsport 7’s Silverstone track, the home of the British Grand Prix. This will boast Forza’s intricate attention to detail and their impressive graphics as the racers sear through the asphalt as if they were flying.
Lastly, the finalists take on the virtual track at Hockenheimring, paying homage to it as it hosted the German Grand Prix in 2019. Competitors will use the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport car in both final races, allowing the racers to gain a better feel for the car as they move on to try and win the competition
The winner will then be crowned the Porsche Asia Pacific Forza Cup Champion. That doesn’t mean that he or she’ll be the only winner though, as all 16 finalists will win prizes from the Porsche Driver’s Selection and HUGO BOSS, the main sponsors for the event.
