Last weekend, the Play-Ins for Worlds 2024 concluded, and after weeks of high-level League of Legends play, all the teams are now locked in, and the Swiss Stage finally begins.
The final two teams that came out of the Play-Ins were paiN Gaming, who bested Movistar R7 2-1, as well as PSG Talon, who defeated 100 Thieves, 2-0. paiN Gaming represents CBLOL, Brazil’s professional League of Legends league, ending their regular season as the 1st seed, while PSG Talon is the 1st seed on the Pacific Championship Series (PCS).
They join Mad Lions KOI and GAM Esports as the four teams to qualify for the Swiss Stage.
Following the conclusion of the Play-Ins, the final 16 teams have been set for this year’s Worlds 2024 championship. The 4 teams from the Play-In Stage join the 12 teams with direct entry from China, South Korea, Europe and North America.
The Swiss Stage will commence on October 3rd – 7th and 10th – 13th. There will be 20 Bo1 games, and 13 Bo3 matches during the Swiss Stage, which ensures top-level professional League of Legends action throughout the entire stage.
Teams are placed in corresponding Pools based on their placements on their respective splits. The major regions (LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS) have respective slots: LCK has 4, LPL has 4, LEC has 2, and LCS has 2 slots.
For LCK, and LPL, the four teams are placed based on which team was the champion of the most recent split and regional finals, and the 1st runner up of their last split and regional finals. Meanwhile, LEC and LCS teams are the champions of their most recent splits, and the runner-up.
Pool 1: HLE (LCK Summer Champion), BLG (LPL Summer Champion), G2 (LEC Finals Champion) , FLY (LCS Summer Champion)
Pool 2: Gen.G (MSI Champion, LCK Championship Points), TES ( LPL Championship Points), FNC (LEC Finals Runner-Up), TL (LCS Summer Runner-Up)
Pool 3: DK (LCK Regional Finals Winner), LNG (LPL Regional Finals Winner), T1 (LCK Regional Finals Runner-Up), WBG (LPL Regional Finals Runner-Up)

This year’s tournament format is set as follows:
Round 1 – teams will be paired against teams from a different region
Rounds 2 to 5 – Teams will be seeded based on their corresponding win-loss record
Elimination and Advancement matches are Bo3
All other matches are Bo1.
Each team can face an opponent only once throughout the Swiss Stage, and teams that reach 3 wins advance to Knockout Stage. Meanwhile, teams that reach 3 losses are eliminated.
Through the course of the Swiss Stage, side selection will be determined by initial draw pool – the higher pool will receive side selection. Matches between teams from the same draw pool, side selection will be determined by the team’s drawing order.
