LEC’s Mad Lions KOI and CBLoL’s paiN Gaming are the first two teams to bow out of Worlds 2024. The rest of the teams are vying for Knockout spots.
Worlds 2024 is getting heated, and after a week of intense pro-League of Legends action, the first 2 teams of the 16 competitors vying for this year’s championship have bowed out of contention.
Meanwhile, 2 teams have punched their tickets to the Knockout Stage, going undefeated match-wise against the competition, while the rest continue their climb to get 3 wins to complete the Swiss Stage.
Which Teams have been Eliminated from Worlds 2024?
Mad Lions KOI (MDK) from the LEC is the first team to not advance from the Swiss Stage. They were followed by CBLoL representative paiN Gaming, who competed at the world stage for the first time in 9 years.
First Team Out: Mad Lions KOI (0-3)
MDK’s Swiss Stage run saw them compete against BiliBili Gaming (BLG) where they got handily beaten in a Best of 1 match in Round 1. BLG showcased their prowess as one of the favorites to have a deep run in this year’s worlds as the 1st runner up from the previous year.
For Round 2, which is another Best of 1, MDK went up against PSG Talon from PCS. While this was a bit more competitive, ultimately PSG Talon eked out a victory to hand MDK, who suddenly were looking at a 0-2 record, and on the brink of elimination.
Their final match was against GAM Esports from VCS in a Best of 3. MDK managed to win one game against GAM Esports, but the sole VCS representatives proved their mettle and bested MDK to go over 2-1.
Second Team Out: paiN Gaming (0-3)
paiN Gaming (PNG) from CBLoL’s first match in Round 1 pitted them against LEC 2024 champions G2 Esports. While PNG was riding their momentum from their Play Ins victory, G2 Esports proved to be a formidable opponent, besting and handing them their first loss at the Swiss Stage.
Round 2 saw PNG duke it out against LCK’s T1, the reigning and defending champions for another Best of 1 game. T1 was on point for this fight, giving paiN Gaming their second loss in 25 minutes of action where the KDA was 20-6.
Their last match was against Team Liquid from the LCS in a Best of 3 match. Team Liquid was on point and didn’t give PNG an inch on their way to a solid 2-0 showing.
Which Teams Advanced after 3 Rounds?
While 2 teams have bowed out from the Swiss Stage, 2 teams have secured their slots on the Knockout Stage. These two teams are Gen G from LCK, and LNG Esports from LPL.
First Team to Qualify to Knockout Stage: Gen.G (3-0)
Gen.G from the LCK is continuing their dominant performance this year by being the first team to get 3 wins and advancing from the Swiss Stage onto the Knockout Stage.
Their first Best of 1 match saw them battle LPL’s Weibo Gaming. After a grueling match, Gen G came out on top to land their first win in the Swiss Stage.
Following this, their Round 2 opponent was Top Esports from the LPL. Gen G didn’t lose their composure to pick up their second win against one of the strongest LPL teams.
Gen G’s third win came at the expense of Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) from the LCK in a Best of 3. HLE managed to get yet another game from Gen G, which had shades from their matchup during the recent Summer Split which saw HLE come out on top and win the Summer Split Championship.
However, Gen G was out to avenge their LCK Summer Split loss by going to win the next 2 games and secure their advance to the Knockout Stage.
Second Team to Qualify to Knockout Stage: LNG Esports (3-0)
LNG Esports from the LPL made some noise on the Swiss Stage by going 3-0 over 3 Rounds. The team overcame the VISA issues with their mid-laner, Scout, and managed to compete with their original lineup throughout the Swiss Stage.
Their first Best of 1 match was against Team Liquid from the LCS. LNG made quick work of Team Liquid, going for a commanding 20-9 KDA on their way to their first win.
Round 2 saw them compete against BiliBili Gaming, the first runner up of last year’s worlds. This was a highly anticipated match since these LPL teams are considered to be the best to compete on the Swiss Stage. LNG managed to best BLG after a long match, improving their record to 2-0.
Their last match was versus Dplus KIA from the LCK, in a Best of 3. The two games went over 35 mins each, and LNG rode the momentum on their way to beating Dplus KIA 2-0, and punching their ticket as the second team to qualify for the Knockout Stage.
