Latest eSports news in Overwatch, CS:GO, COD, Fortnite

The world of eSports has continued moving throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, with its potentially remote nature providing ample opportunity for the biggest games to stay relevant, including Fortnite, Call of Duty, League of Legends, CS:GO and Overwatch.

Fleta named Overwatch League MVP

Shanghai Dragons flex DPS Kim “Fleta” Byung-sun has been named MVP of the 2020 Overwatch League season. Fleta placed fifth in Final Blows, Final Blow-to-Death Ratio, and Eliminations during the 2020 season.

This was Fleta’s first season playing for the Shanghai Dragons after being acquired from Seoul Dynasty. The Dragons went 27-2 this season and have advanced to the Grand Finals, where they’ll face off with the Philadelphia Fusion.

MiBR losing players

MiBR has seen the departure of a number of players from its roster, including FalleN, fer, TACO and dead. The Brazilian CS:GO team had already had a ban placed on its coaches during a recent cheating scandal.

It was MiBR’s decision to drop fer, TACO and dead from the team. FalleN chose to leave the team following those moves. FalleN released this statement: “I’m not satisfied with the recent decision. Last weeks have been tough and challenging and that is why I’m asking to leave the active roster while I think on my next steps. This time will be necessary to find my essence and return the peace I need to decide my path, while I accomplish my contractual obligations.”

Call of Duty Mobile to release night-time maps

The developers for Call of Duty’s popular mobile game look like they’ll be releasing a much-desired component to their battle royale maps: Night-time mode.

The plan is for those maps to be released in Season 10: The Hunt. There will also be a new battle royale class, known as the Hacker. High Alert will be the newest perk to come in Season 10, but the developers did say that Overkill will not be ready yet for Season 10.

Buy an X-Wing Glider in Fortnite

The latest item available for purchase in Fortnite is the X-Wing Glider, which Epic Games announced via Twitter on Monday morning. The glider costs 1,200 V-bucks.

The X-Wing Glider is just the latest Star War-themed item to appear in Fortnite. There have been various available skins, along with a Millenium Falcon offering during last year’s Winterfest and a crossover event around the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. A stormtrooper has also made an appearance in Fortnite.
