Game Updates

The major V14.20 Fortnite patch arrived on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch this week; the updates will close out the season 4 Marvel takeover. Version 14.20 includes bug fixes to general play, Creative and Save the World modes, and new characters such as the Marvel heroes Blade and Wolverine. Players can now also watch the K-pop group BTS perform in a video for their new single “Dynamite” at the in-game map “Party Royale Island” this Friday, 25th September.

Riot Games has scheduled a League of Legends patch for Wednesday, September 30th. Patch 10.20 will change the movement speed, physical damage and strength elements of characters including: Relentless Hunter, Katarina and Lulu, while character Aurelion Sol will receive a new prestige skin.

Releases

Activision will launch season 6 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone on Tuesday, September 29th. In this new season, two new Operators, Nikolai and Farah, new weapons, and an extension to the Verdansk map with a subway system below the city have been confirmed in the most recent trailer released by Activision.

Events

Blizzard is planning two Overwatch events in Asia and North America; these events will replace the traditional Overwatch League. A Talent Takedown, Widowmaker 1v1 Tournament, All-Stars Game and further modes are all scheduled to take place on September 26th (Asia) and October 3rd (North America).

Activision Blizzard announced that they have rescheduled their annual convention, ‘Bilzzcon’ for February 19th and 20th, 2021. A launch of Overwatch 2 was rumored to be announced at the initial event earlier in 2020, however, the convention was cancelled and will now take place entirely online next year due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Tournaments

Riot Games announced their own Valorant ‘First Strike’ tournament which will take place across the world in the coming months with the finals taking place between December 3rd to December 6th, 2020. It’s important to note that both amateur and professional players can qualify for the finals through a variety of online tournaments between October and December.

The new professional PUBG Mobile EMEA League was announced for players in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. It will replace the PUBG MOBILE Club Open (PMCO) regional finals, and players from different regions can qualify for the PUBG MOBILE Global Championship.

The League of Legends World Championships begin on Friday, September 25th. BetOnline ranks Chinese LoL Pro League 2020 champions, “Top Esports” (7/10), as the favorites to reach the finals. Second favorites are another Chinese team, “JD Gaming” (93/50), and League Champions of Korea, “DAMWON Gaming” (9/10), are the third favorites to reach the tournament final on October 31st.
