The League of Legends (LoL) World Championship 2024 is shaping up to be a highly entertaining one this year as teams across the world are competing to get a spot for the tournament. LoL’s World Championship is the culmination of a number of regional tournaments, and this year’s big event will take place in a number of countries.
September 25, 2024 is the date when the LoL Worlds Championship begins. The Swiss or Play-In competition, which is composed of the LoL teams from different regions, will be held at the Riot Games Arena in Berlin, Germany, from September 25-29.
Meanwhile, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be conducted at the Adidas Arena in Paris, France. Specifically, the quarterfinals are scheduled to commence from October 3-13, and the semifinals will take place from October 26-27.
The Finals, where two LoL teams that manage to advance from the aforementioned brackets, will be held at the O2 Arena in London, United Kingdom, on November 2, 2024.. Once the dust settles, a sole winning team will be declared champions of the 2024 Worlds.
Each team is competing against top competition in their respective regions, beginning with the Spring Split this year, and culminates with the Summer Split. After the conclusion of the Summer Split, apart from winning the regional championship, the performance of the teams will be collated and will determine their placements in the Swiss Play-In competition.
Here are some of the teams by region that will face off to punch their ticket to Worlds 2024 tournament (as of this writing, most regional Summer Split Playoffs are still about to commence):
Hanwha Life Esports
T1
Dplus KIA
BNK FearX
KT Rolster
Gen G is the first LCK team to qualify for Worlds 2024. Their dominance in the Spring Split and MSI was much needed momentum the team needed, and the conclusion of the Summer Split regular season saw them sit atop the LCK standings. This was enough to secure their place in the Worlds 2024 tournament.
Top Esports
LNG Esports
JD Gaming
Weibo Gaming
Ninjas in Pyjamas
A number of powerful teams are still in contention thanks to the recent changes to the LPL summer format. Similar to the LCK, the winners of the summer playoffs and the team with the most championship points will qualify for Worlds. The last two slots will be decided by the Regional Finals.
Following their performance in this year’s MSI that saw them reach 2nd place, BLG is the first LPL team to secure their place in the Swiss Stage after winning against Top Esports in the LPL Summer playoffs. BLG will be the first team to lock either lock #1 or #2 seed at Worlds, depending on whether they win the final.
Note: If G2 wins the Season Finals, the last qualifying spot will be given to the next best-performing team.
Fnatic
Team BDS
MDK
The LEC Season Finals are still about to happen, and G2 has already locked in a spot for Worlds 2024. This means that the LEC has to determine the remaining two seeds. G2 has already locked the lowest seed possible but will get a higher one if they place 2nd or higher in the LEC Summer Playoffs; the best non-qualified team will land the third seed in G2’s stead.
Team Liquid
Cloud9
FlyQuest
Dignitas
100 Thieves
NRG
Teams in the LCS are still jockeying for position as the Summer Split playoffs take place. Team Liquid and Cloud9 are the perennial favorites to come out on top, while 100 Thieves and FlyQuest are trying to make an impact and are looking for an upset.
Only two Play-Ins teams per minor region will qualify into the Swiss Stage based on performance. Here are the team standings so far who have the chance to face off against the major regions in the Play-Ins:
PSG Talon
SoftBank HAWKS
CTBC Flying Oyster
Frank Esports
The PCS 2024 Summer Playoffs is currently underway, with PCS Talon securing the first spot in the Finals. They await the rest of the teams on the Loser’s Bracket that include Frank Esports, CTBC Flying Oyster, and SoftBank HAWKS.
The VCS Summer Split has recently concluded with GAM and Vikings Esports representing the Vietnamese region at Worlds. Starting next year, GAM will also be part of the new APAC league.
Vivo Keyd Stars
paiN Gaming
RED Canids
LOUD
paiN Gaming has secured their spot on CBLOL’s Summer Finals, and are currently awaiting the result between LOUD and Vivo Keyd Stars. LOUD recently defeated RED Canids, while Vivo Keyd Stars fell to paiN Gaming.
Movistar R7

The two teams will face off during the final on Saturday, August 24, to determine the LLA representative.
