From the 12th to the 20th of October League of Legends fans around the world will be tuning in to the Worlds 2019 Group Stage. Teams will compete against others in their group in a Double Round Robin format to secure their spot in the upcoming Elimination Bracket. Only the top 2 teams from each group will progress to the next bracket, and matches will be best of 1, so anything can happen.
The first days of the Group Stage will see matches comprising of different groups, with the closing days being specific to each group. This lets us see a lot of the talent spread out early on, followed by intense days of teams battling to secure their first and second seed spots.
All start times are scheduled are CEST and subject to change.
We start the Group Stages of Worlds 2019 with the EU 2nd seed facing off against SKT1, testing if the old God, Faker, and take down new rising star Nemesis. It’s a day filled with underdog matches, with Clutch taking on RNG, AHQ against Invictus and J Team trying to take the win from FunPlus. There are bound to be many scraps and high kill matches ahead.
The second day of Group Stage opens up with SKT vs RNG and promises to be an incredible match between two powerhouses. Each with high individual technical player skills, it will likely be a slow, yet extremely calculated match. Fnatic should have an easier day two against Clutch, but Team Liquid will have a more difficult day going against Worlds 2018 winners Invictus Gaming.
We have a range of matches today, with low-seed scrapes (we’re looking at you J Team vs GAM Esports) and feisty underdog matches. We’re looking forward to seeing if EU’s 3rd seed Splyce can take on China’s 1st seed FunPlus Phoenix and live to tell the tale.
From the expected skill differences each of these matches should be quite clear cut, but with the format being Bo1 then anything can happen! Underdogs will need to secure early kills and objective pressure to ensure they can outscale their opponents.
