Call of Duty League Toronto – Day 2 Preview
While it took a reverse sweep and many games went down to the wire, we achieved yet another 4/4 Friday starting off CDL Toronto brilliantly. Today we have some very close games, but here’s my analysis and predictions for the upcoming matches.
Atlanta FaZe vs Dallas Empire
Last night started off strong with Atlanta FaZe dominating Minnesota Rokkr winning the match 3-0. While the Hardpoint finished 250-237, this was in favour of Minnesota for a large amount of the game. FaZe had to pull off a nice string of Hardpoints to win this match. The Search and Destroy was dominant in 6-1 and so was the Domination. Simp topped the charts with a 1.68 overall K/D, however aBeZy was right behind him with a 1.34. FaZe looked strong, and this is setting up to be an extremely good match.
Dallas Empire had to pull off the reverse sweep last night against the Florida Mutineers. The first two maps finished 250-127 and 6-1 in favour of Florida. This match was shaping up to be a 3-0 easily, however Dallas bounced back and won the series 3-2. Only Huke went positive for Dallas, and that was with a 1.00. So while they won the series, they were severely outslayed. Their slaying power was the main factor in their Home Series win last week, so they’ll need to return to that form if they are to take down FaZe tonight.
This will be the matchup of the night. Two absolute titans taking each other on for those valuable CDL points. If Dallas can outslay as they did last weekend, they take this series easily in a 3-1 fashion. However, if both teams show up how they did yesterday, this could be a victory for FaZe. I’m taking a Dallas Empire ML. While this will be a heavily contested match, I believe that Dallas have the experience and skill to take down FaZe when it matters most.
Pick: Dallas Empire ML, 1.67 @ Midnite
Chicago Huntsmen vs Toronto Ultra
Chicago Huntsmen unexpectedly went 1-0 down to Seattle Surge last night. While I expected them to win a map, I definitely favoured them to win the Domination more than the Hardpoint. Regardless, Chicago went on to win the series 3-1 and find themselves matched up against the hosts in their second match. For what seems like the first time this season, Scump topped the charts with a 1.17 overall K/D as he had a massive map 4 going 22-15.
The hosts Toronto Ultra are not a team to look past. They showed their resilience last night after going 2-0 up before the series was tied 2-2. Many teams would crumble, however they were strong and won the series 3-2. OGLA are nowhere near the standard of the Chicago Huntsmen, but Toronto still have a fighting chance here. Coming up against Chicago, they will need to take the SnD, however that will not be easy.
In Chicago’s last five matches, they are 5-1 in SnD. This is an exceptional improvement compared to the start of the season, and means that this will be a tough game for Toronto. However, being an equally skilled SnD team, they could very well steal map 2 and their own Hardpoint. This would force a game five, and even then I would still back Chicago to win. However, because of the sheer game five potential in this matchup, I’m sticking with a Chicago Huntsmen ML.
Pick: Chicago Huntsmen ML, 1.32 @ Midnite
Minnesota Rokkr vs Florida Mutineers
Minnesota Rokkr took yet another defeat in their first game losing 3-0 to Atlanta FaZe. Rokkr were outslayed and had no response to FaZe in the SnD at all. While they kept the Hardpoint close, their late game decision making cost them the map, with FaZe playing it extremely well and them having no way of countering. This is looking like another depressing weekend for the Rokkr at CDL Toronto.
Florida Mutineers suffered another reverse sweep, this time to the Dallas Empire. Yet again Skyz, Fero and Owakening topped the overall K/D charts and performed extremely well. These three are always consistent, if Havok and Frosty play like they can this could be an easy 3-0.
This game could easily be a repeat of last night and end in another 3-0 loss for the Rokkr at CDL Toronto. They also have the ability to take a map, if Florida falls asleep they could easily lose one of the maps. Therefore, I’m staying with a Florida Mutineers -1.5 Handicap.
Pick: Florida Mutineers -1.5, 1.58 @ Midnite
Seattle Surge vs OpTic Gaming Los Angeles
While Seattle Surge shocked us all with their map 1 win against the Chicago Huntsmen, their celebrations were short lived as they lost the series 3-1. Octane once again topped the leaderboard with a 1.17 overall K/D, however it was Proto who stepped up with a 1.04. If more of the team can improve as Proto did, Seattle have a real chance in this matchup.
OpTic Gaming Los Angeles fought hard and took Toronto to a game five before losing 6-4 to take the 3-2 series loss. Drazah really stepped up here, finishing the series with a 1.18 overall K/D and being OGLA’s main slayer in SnD. His 17-6 map 2 saw him nearly break the record only being 2 kills away.
While I extremely favour OpTic in this matchup, Seattle could definitely do some damage. This could be another game five, or it could be a 3-0. Because of the uncertainty, I’m sticking with the OpTic Gaming Los Angeles ML.
Pick: OpTic Gaming Los Angeles ML, 1.27 @ Midnite
